Looking for Accounts/Bookkeeping Experience

I am a qualified CIMA accountant with 10yrs strong industry experience in a variety of accountancy/finance roles in several big blue chip firms.

I would like to one day work for myself as an accountant/bookkeeper in practice.

As a result I would like to gain some practical experience in bookkeeping/accounts preperation. I think the best way for me to do this would be to get some sub-contract work.

I would be grateful for any advice anyone may have to help me find some good practical experience.

Thanks

Matt

Hi,
Have you got kids Matt?

If so offer your services as the 'Treasurer' when its up for grabs for the school association or what ever they are called connected to your school. No one ever wants that job and it will gain you experience.

HTH

edit:-  Have you got any family that are self-employed that you could just offer to look over their books for free just to familerise yourself with the bookkeeping?

evileye I got volunteered for this in my absence, my darling wife came home and told me what she had done, as it turns out it's very easy and a great thing for your cv.

I've done the treasurer role for a few community groups, as Amanda says no one ever wants to do it. Though it was getting to the point I was being invited to join groups just to be the treasurer so had to take a look at what I was doing otherwise I'd be at pointless meetings every other night.

One of the most interesting groups to be involved in from a bookkeeping point of view, I found, is a Credit Union if you have one locally.  Though it is a bit more involved than a PTA.

Good luck finding something.
