Hi from France!

Hi,

My name is Jerome, I am 32 yo. I am French, and I live in Bordeaux at the moment.

I was an accounting and commercial computing trainer for 6 years, and I start a new path quite soon : I settle in London :) I will study English and try ICB certification with Kaplan, more to learn English Accounting language than accountancy itself (I have a sort of French Master degree in accounting : DECF)...

I am going to begin the course in France, and I will keep up in London by the end of october :)

Hope to share information in this forum, and if someone need some french speaking bookkeeper, I am here !

Cheers

Jérôme

(PS: sorry for my poor English, I know it needs some improvement hmm)

Hi Jérôme and welcome to the forum,

Good to see your embarking on ICB biggrin

Just to let you know we have many centres in France if you wanted to take your examinations over there.

Good luck with the course!

Hi Jerohm,

welcome to the forum and don't worry, your English is already much better than the French of many of we Brits (myself included).

I think that you've got the right approach, total immersion by settling in a country is definitely the way to go to really pick up the language.

Have you already got a position lined up?

Good luck with that and looking forward to talking to you on the site.

All the best,

Shaun.

Hi Shaun,

At the moment, I have no position lined up : my English is not good enough (or more exactly: I am not confident enough with it).

Actually, I read it quite well, I write it rather well (with some grammar errors :-/ ), I can speak it with an awful French accent, but the most difficult, for me, is to understand it when it is spoken.

So I am going to begin with some english lessons in order to improve prononciation and understanding. 4 weeks in November.

In accountancy, that would be rather easy : I have just to acquire some vocabulary, and that would do the trick. I have just began some self-study (with Osbourn books) : it is not too difficult :)

By the way, English accountancy seems to be quite easier than the French one. In France, it is really tax oriented, and there are a lot of tax laws to translate in figures... In the UK, it is most business oriented...

These differences are quite interesting for me, and I hope to be able to make my new path a success!

Some work, a lot of bravour, and a bit of luck... And everything should be ok ;)

Regards

Jérôme
