Just thought i would say hi to everyone. I have been working in public practice for the last 15 years. I guess you could say i am qualified by experience. I am an associate member of the ICB with a practice licence. Im good at the accounts side of things but guess am a little out of my depth on the networking and marketing side of things. If anyone has any suggestions (nice ones) then i would be most grateful. If I can be of service in knowledge or help for anyone on the forum just let me know.

Welcome to the forum. Networking is a great way of marketing for bookkeepers and accountants but not everyone is comfortable doing it. There are lots of different kinds of networking groups from the very formal to informal 'drop ins'. My advice would be to search for groups in your area and visit a few to see which ones work for you. Don't be worried about feeling out of place, the organisers are there to put you at ease and look after you so get over the hurdle of going to the first one and it will be fine. Just find out what is involved before you sign up - some may want you to do a sixty second introduction so just make sure you prepare yourself.
I've recently restarted my bookkeeping business and I'm just taking on my first two clients, both have come from networking events, whereas I haven't had any other enquiries from any other sources yet. So I'm feeling very positive about networking!
I've only been to a couple of events, but I have found them very comfortable. I was worried that there might be a bit of fakeness, pretending to be interested in other people, but that really hasn't been the case.
Thanks for the replies. I've booked myself on 2 networking events over next couple of weeks and am gonna just dive straight in. Have put an advert in the paper and am leaflet dropping all weekend (the joys of been your own boss eh). Lets hope it stays sunny.
