Tax Agent - rebate on overpaid PAYE, obtaining Tax agent code

Hi,

We are an organisation for nurses and want to help our members make a claim on over paid PAYE tax, e.g.  where they have temped and been put on emergency tax codes etc...some will need to be backdated to previous tax years.

We are having trouble getting a tax agent code for the 64-8 client authorisation form.

Would this fall under the Self Assessment agent code?

If so, how does one obtain a Self Assessment agent code?

We would appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard and welcome

This link takes you to the HMRC help page with instructions for getting the said reference number

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/agents/agent-codes.htm

This link takes you to a previous post, which is my tale of woe trying to get the number. I believe it is a bit quicker now (post Apr 05)

Just a quick not on overpayments you cannot claim anything via PAYE code in this tax year. Once 05/04 passes the employee can only apply for the overpayment

Wella, thanks for the links. A written letter is in the post requesting the SA tax agent reference.

Lisa Jo, thanks, I understand that previous tax years can not be adjusted for in this years tax codes. But, as an agent we can still make a back dated claim in the form of a cheque refund on overpayments for our client. Is that correct?

Thanks all,

Richard
