I'm new so just wanted to say hello

Hi

I've been looking at some of the posts on here for the past month or so and you all seem really friendly so I decided to join you today!

I've been studying with Ideal Schools for the last year or so.  I've completed and passed the manual level 1 certificate and computerised level 2 certificate with ICB.  I've also done the manual level 2 course but am waiting until ICB changes where you can sit the exams in June.  My nearest centre is 50 miles away and its not practical for me to get there without being totally stressed out as I have a toddler to sort out too!

I've been doing my husbands books for the last 4 years (he's a painter and decorator) so just wanted to know if you think I have enough experience to become a self employed bookkeeper?  I've been doing them on a spreadsheet that his accountant provided me with.  Or should I be looking to work for someone who wants a part time bookkeeper to give me a bit more experience first?  Seen a job today for 6 hours a week who just want someone with SAGE experience to do general bookkeeping duties.

I've worked in a bank for 19 years but I ended up taking voluntary redundancy when I was on maternity leave as the bank I worked for was being taken over by another one.  I decided to start studying bookkeeping then as I want to do something that will fit in with my family life as well as something that I enjoy doing.  I'm not working at the moment (apart from for my husband) and am only wanting to do a couple of days a week so don't have the shock of going from having a steady income to not being sure when the next money will be coming in.

Hi Kirstin,

welcome to the forum.

Well, that's at least three bankers that we've got on here now. We're soon going to rule the site at this rate.

Good luck with getting the Sage job. Keep us informed as to how it goes won't you.

Talk soon,

Shaun.

Hi Kirstin and welcome. Seems like you have the perfect route in as you can pick up the odd client here and theer and maybe make a decision down the line as to whether you want to expand. Good luck with studies.

Thanks Shaun and Rob, will let you know what happens.

Never thought I'd leave banking but I'm so glad I did, really enjoying studying again, nice to get my brain working after watching Peppa Pig, Postman Pat and Timmy Time with my little boy for the last two years!

Ohhhhhh tell me about it, although timmy time is pretty good, however if I have to watch another episode of in the night garden i'll take a baseball bat to the tele.
Personally i've enjoyed going to college and speaking to grownups.

Or more to the point ex bankers!

I'm pretty sure that we greatly outnumber the employed ones now!
