Advice Please

Hi all

I have just found this website while trawling the net for advice and info.  Heres the situation.....

I am AAT foundation qualified (2001) and have since been out of the accounting field due to having a family.  I have been volunteering as a treasurer at my daughters pre school since september and they have just asked me to become their book keeper, knowing I have some experience.  They are willing to pay for me to update/continue my studies which is great but which course would be best.

I've looked at AAT intermediate, IAB computerised accs and Payrol but am just getting more and more confused!

Also if I take on the roll as book keeper, how far does the average  book keeper take the books?

I would love to be able to use this opportunity to start my own business as that would fit in well with family life but don't know where to start.

So many questions in my first post I'm really looking forward to receiving some replies!

Have a good night!biggrin

Hi Karina

As discussed on this forum quite a bit both the AAT and IAB are good qualifications to get. The IAB has a very flexible learning style whereby you can do it via home study, or most colleges offer taught courses (the same can be said of the AAT and also the ICB).

If you're going to be working as a book-keeper for a school thy will almost certainly have an accountant/auditor. You will need to bring the accounts up to trial balance stage, reconiling the bank and ledgers as you go.

This role seems an ideal place to learn the ropes before you start up by yourself.

Best of luck!smile
