Cancellation and Subscriptions?

Hi everyone,

I'm just setting up my new business as a Bookkeeper and I've been playing with prices for some time.

When agreeing a monthly fee with a client, is it best to agree a 12 month contract or just work month by month allowing them to cancel your service at any time?

Is a long term contract more hassle than it's worth? Is it better to charge an hourly fee rather than per transaction or offering packages.

Many thanks

Donna.

Hi Donna, and a belated welcome to the forum.  All my clients are allowed to give 30 days notice, and vice versa.

I prefer to charge a fixed fee but if its mainly bookkeeping you're doing it may be better to charge transactionally or hourly, especially when first starting out.

Hi John,

Thank you for the welcome and thank you for the advice.

I was reluctant to do a subscription type package.

I charge a fixed rate for all my sole traders, but the majority of my Ltd clients I do on a monthly fee, I have a few Companies where I just charge a fixed fee for their end of year accounts.
