Hi,

I'm currently setting up my own business as an IAB Qualified Bookkeeper due to not being to get a job since losing mine at the beginning of Covid.

 

Can anyone please tell me which policies I have to have and which are good practice?

Hi Donna, welcome to the forum

What services are you going to be offering to your clients? 

You will need to register for MLR and also with the ICO as these are both legal responsibilities, also highly recommended to get Professional Indemnity Insurance in place.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I'm going to start off offering basic Bookkeeping and Tax Return support using a digital system, possibly Xero. So Sole Traders and small businesses who don't have any staff.

I'm Qualified IAB Bookkeeper and couldn't get a job as a Bookkeeper due to not having any experience, yet the same firms wouldn't give me work experience either.

I was self-employed for 7 years in another trade and completed my own accounts and Tax returns, so I have basic knowledge. I'm literally going to be learning as I go.

If you are looking at submitting tax returns you will also have to apply to HMRC to become an agent
