Taking the pee

It started off with header advertising.  Unobtrusive and a very small price to pay for a free forum.

Then we started getting advertising inside the posts.  I wasn't so keen but I lived with it.

Then, in the last 3 months you get a pop up advert as soon as you open the forum page, and you have to click on the page to get to the forum. Bloody annoying but hey ho, still accepting that the site requires revenue.

Today however, is the final straw. pop up advert followed by two whacking big adverts in the middle of Vince's post.

Like I say, I accept that it's a free forum, and advertising is necessary to pay the hosting charges and provide a revenue stream, but the forum is quiet enough as it is, and if it's making me annoyed, how many others is it putting off?

Thoughts anyone.

Here are the offending adverts. I've reduced the size by 25%

Hi John,

totally agree.

first time the pop ups started appearing I thought that it was a virus that had somehow snook past the multiple layers of virus protection on my machine.

thinks :

The ad's in the middle of posts have annoyed me for a long time especially as they are now things that are nothing to do with bookkeeping and in fact often venture into the area's that I ban people for. Unfortunately I have no say in such matters.

I find the advertising to be both intrusive and down market.

And yes, I feel that my own time being on this forum is coming to an end.

All the best matey,

Shaun.

Hi Shaun

I'm glad it's not just me then!  Read your post and thought  "not another advert" til I realised you'd put a youtube clip there lol

Good grief - that's awful. And a big thumbs up for my set up, on which I don't see it. :)

Hi Vince.

Yes, I might have to invest in an adblocker, at least for this site.

Yes I agree, the adverts mid post are incredibly annoying.

Love that clip though (and every other episode of IT Crowd).  If that was a person I'd shoot it in the face
