Foreign Dividends

Hi All

Can anyone just confirm something for me please, a UK resident has foreign dividend income and this should be included on the UK tax return (above 2k), it is just that the firm that done this clients tax return last year told them it does not need to be included which has made me think i am going mad!

Thanks

Not something I've dealt with Doug but from what I can see it should be included and tax credit claimed if already taxed in that country.

Only time it wouldn't apply is if a/ the only foreign income was dividends, and b/ total dividends (including uk) are under 2k and c/ there is no other income to report.

Hi Doug

It definitely has to go in...I've processed nearly 500 2020 tax returns and did a lot of foreign dividends! Not saying I understood it all, why can't everyone make the paperwork the same and simply give the figures required!!!!
I'm going mad and grey with it all wink

Happy New Year to everyone.
