Introduction

Good evening all. I've stumbled across this site recently and I intend to involve myself in the forums as much as possible.

By way of an introduction, my qualifications are AAT and CIMA and I've been 'qualified' via those bodies for the past ten years. I work in the housing sector as the head of a finance department. I provide some very basic bookkeeping services for a relative's Limited company, but I've never worked in practice.

I can see a lot of questions and discussions about software and 'how to' which I probably won't be able to contribute much to, but hope I can get involved in other accounting discussions.

Hope everyone is safe and well in these very strange times.

Hi,

welcome to the forum.

good intro and sounds as though you've got the right foundations to be able to expand your knowledge base further.

They are indeed strange times and the expectation is that there will be a bit of a downturn in demand in most sectors for at least the next 12-18 months so whilst not a great time to be moving more in the bookkeeping direction, it's probably the best time to find more of us on the site on a more regular basis so very much looking forwards to chatting.... After I've caught up on my CPD... Which I'm coming to the conclusion you can't actually count it by simply trying to outstare it. lol.

All the best,

Shaun.

Hi, welcome to the forum.  Thanks for adding a few more questions to my quiz page, although it's a bit disappointing that no one has had a go at the other questions you posed.

Do you have a name?  It would be handy if you popped it under your posts.  You can add it on your profile page.

Hi Shaun.

Does it work if you sit down at 10 am and change your watch to 4 pm?   6 hours CPD in the blink of an eye. biggrin

As John says - be good if you can add a first name at least.

What part of the housing sector?

How are you finding it will all this covid-19 'stuff'?

Not yet ya muppet, lol.

You have to wait for the dominoes to start falling first then we all get together, sing a few songs, roast a few marsh mallows and chat about the good / bad (delete as appropriate) ol days before clients were as rare as white elephants.

biggrin

I will take that as a term of endearment!

You really do not want to hear me sing, but toasty marshmallows is a fab idea......get the BBQ going, get the wine out and chill.....oh wait, I'm chilling, or chilled .....to the bone as its blithering freezing in my office.

On Wednesday I thought it was Tuesday, today I'm thinking its Friday....no idea what is going on.

Lol,

yep, I lost Sunday completely this week.

Doesn't help that in the old days it used to be that we looked forwards to a day of the week when a TV program would be on. But even thats fallen by the wayside as we just watch box sets on Amazon/Now/Netflix whenever we want, so can't even tell the day of the week from that anymore!

New day system to be implemented is an alternate five day calendar. Before yesterday, Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, After Tomorrow.

Weeks months and years it seems are no longer applicable.

I work in the social housing sector, and Im in a very fortunate position. Not been furloughed, have plenty of work to do for year end, and able to work fully from home with no issues. The main risk to the sector is that social housing tenants will have their incomes stretched due to Covid, which will impact our finances in the coming year(s).
