Which software??

Sorry in advance of this is a continuous boring question!

At the moment I use an older multi company version of sage which in honesty I'm pretty happy with.  However I'm thinking about a new laptop and I might have been given a copy of my sage which means to move forward I will need a new version of sage.

All the sage seems to be cloud based now and pretty expensive!

Anyone any thoughts on other software which is multi company that I could use going forward or should I just invest in sage again.  Do sage still do accounting packages that aren't cloud based?  I emailed them but they haven't bothered getting back to me and besides you bunch of lovely people will know better I'm sure!

Thanks in advance!

C

Hi Caroline
Can you please add your first name so that it appears under the signature bar on your posts? Saves everyone looking it up each time!! (you can do this via Edit profile --->signatures)
Tarrr

What are you suing the software for? Just bookkeeping. Bookeeping and full accounts? (Latter in iXBRL needed?)

Hi again
Im confused (it honestly doesnt take much these days!)

Ignoring the licence issues, which might be why sage havent come back to you.....So are you using sage SAP? Or Sage to do the accounts, then dropping it into some other software to do the self assessment part? (such as taxfiler, or talxcal). Or are you doing that part via HMRC direct?

Hi C,

Sage are causing a lot of confusion with the description of their products. The best succinct description I've seen comes from David from SkyeWright:

Sage50cloud, even the 'just out' Sage50cloud 2019, is still a desktop application; it's essentially Sage 50 plus some bundled stuff related to MS Office.

As I understand it, Sage One is their proper "cloud" (i.e. web only) offering.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Edited for typo.

David also adds:

Just to be clear...

Sage50cloud is a normal Windows application and is based on executable files installed on the Windows machine.

The data is also stored on the local machine (or network).

If you choose to use SageDrive, then there are also related copies of the data elsewhere, but that's not an inherent requirement of using Sage50cloud.

I hope this helps too.

Regards,

And this is why companies shouldn't mess around rebranding their products - down the line, when people want or need to move on to a newer version of what they have, it just causes confuzzlement.

It would of course help to know what Caroline has got now, but hey ho!

Yes Sage (non cloud) is still available - monthly or perpetual.
Accountants/Bookkeepers club is still available - monthly.

Cheaper options of desktops- covered in other threads
