Self Assessment tax returns

Im working in construction as a self-employee and I need to complete my self assessment return. My accountant told me: Look, I can guarantee you the X amount to be paid back to you with Y expenses amount. If you want to be paid more with more expenses, then the risk is on you. How did my accountant figure out that secure expenses amount?

This is a forum for bookkeepers and accountants Daniel.

You have an accountant. Ask him.  Trust him? Or better still find a better one.

Evenin Joanne, seems that we drew similar conclusions in the other thread in that why is the accountant not doing the filing?

Also, is this misunderstanding the advice thats been given, hearing only the parts of the advice that he wanted to or bad advice?

If its a real accountant (jury's out) I would go with one of the first two options. The fact that the poster states that the accountant "Guaranteed" something doesn't sound much like an accountant to me. We don't use that word espechially when the English language has options like "May", "Could", "Might", "Should"... You get the gist. Guarantee... the mere mention of the word is like kyptonite for us risk averse accountant types. wink

This website seems like its full of some weirdos pretending to be experts in accounting. I asked a question. 1.Can you answer it? Please write it down and I will be thankful for that. 2. Cant you answer it? Then better do what youre best at and dont sell me your bullshit of how to choose my accountants (somethinh I didnt ask you) Thanks.

Well, I've got a chartered qualification, I've taken a Masters in Accountancy from one of the worlds top eight universities and I work as a senior accountant with a multi billion turnover company so yes, I would consider myself an accountant.

We have answered your question, we've told you that you that we disagree with the approach that you have adopted. And we've questioned why your accountant is not doing this for you. We give our time for free here to help other accountants and bookkeepers, not to help business owners avoid payng for professional services by getting free advice.
