Bright Pay and Holiday Pay


Does anyone use brightpay? I am trying to figure out how to calculate holiday pay for weekly paid staff who get paid different hourly rates e.g  staff member works 30hours but gets paid at £10 for 15hrs and £11 for 15 hrs. Brightpay calculated the hours accrued for leave but doesn't give you the average hourly rate to use for payment. Hoe do other deal with holiday pay in brightpay?

How about an intro before we start - we always ask newbies to the site.

What prof body do you belong to, do you work for yourself or in a practice/ firm, are you a bookkeeper or accountant, what qualifications, how long in role, where up to in your studies-what exams passed/with what body/in midst of doing, where based, what you did before this role? That sort of thing. Helps get to know you but also how best to pitch answers.

What do their contracts state about holiday pay?

I am setting up providing payroll services. Based in Oldham. New client with weekly staff . Other payrolls that I looked at  before settling on Brightpay looked as if you could get holiday pay accrued in £ . Brightpay works it out in hrs and then you have to figure out the average rate to use to pay. if you have 20 staff a week requesting holiday - times adds up.

Their contract states holiday will be paid based on average rate over 12 weeks.

Welcome to the forum.

Bbe good to have another payroll bod on here. Are you qualified or QE? What did you do before? Do you do any Accountancy / bookkeeping work as well?

Might be useful if you add your full name and location to your profile - you might get some work out of it!!!! (You are local to me - ish!)

Do you do CIS as well?

Might be worth considering a move, or maybe waiting until the new tax year. (#)

Do your clients send you the information in spreadsheet format? If so - dump it into a master sheet and use that.

At least you can drag spreadsheets out of BP, your only other option for now (#) I think. Shouldnt be too time consuming. But the joys of weeklies and one of the many reasons I farm it out more these days, although my software can cope with it if its set up correctly from the start.

Hi Jay, welcome to the forum.

What I would do in this situation is add up the total hours for the last 12 weeks and the total pay, then divide total pay by hours worked. That will then give you an hourly figure to determine the holiday rate.

Moneysoft accrues on a monetary basis but you would still need to know the averaged out hourly rate even then.
