Sage upgrade Instant Accounts Plus to Sage50cloud

Hi all, I'm currently very happily using Sage Instant Accounts, having until now resisted their sales pitch to move to the cloud. However, our system is being updated to Windows 10 in September and it seems I now have no option but to upgrade, as the Sage version I have won't work with Windows 10.

Having called the sales line they have quoted me £52 + VAT pm to upgrade to the equivalent Sage 50cloud Essentials for 2 users, which includes £20pm telephone support which they assure me I will 'need' to get through the upgrade process. I'm not keen to spend this much as I don't have any need for Sage support, and committing to the support initially would tie me in for a year.

Unfortunately I can't tell Sage to take a running jump as it's the system our accountants use, but I'm contemplating going for the non-supported option and working through the upgrade process myself. I've been using Sage for years and have mostly managed to troubleshoot any issues myself in the past. Has anyone else been through this process, and was it straightforward, or would you advise going the overpriced supported route?

Thanks

Dont fall for their hype.

You dont need to upgrade to cloud.

You dont need to upgrade for MTD, nor GDPR or whatever other stunt they are pulling this week.

But DO double check your sage will not work with W10 as a fair few are compatible but it does depend on the age, which is the crucial bit of info you miss from your post.

THAT SAID, this is a forum for professional bookkeepers and accountants to give advice to each other not members of the public. Plus most of us will not be using the system you use as we have Accountants versions which run differently, are priced differently etc etc etc,

Also worth adding thought that you do NOT have to keep the same system as your Accountant. Another load of rubbish. If they are THAT prescriptive change Accountants!! There are always ways to extract the data from whatever software system you want to use and if they cannot work with such - change Accountants.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

Hi Joanne

My sentiments exactly on all points.  They could always ditch the W10 update if no joy biggrin

Thanks for your replies - no choice about the Windows 10 upgrade unfortunately. Sage version is 17.0.12.200. Sage tell me it's not tested with Windows 10, therefore can't guarantee that it will work.

I didn't realise it wasn't a public forum, no warnings to that effect came up when I registered. Thanks for the advice anyway.

Hi S.Lewis,

I can categorically state that I've never had any problems with Sage Instant or Sage Essentials on Windows 10. I keep a fairly close eye on SageForum and the gurus on there are constantly saying that, whilst Sage won't guarantee that some older versions of their software will work on Windows 10, that's because Sage don't test it any more, not because it doesn't work. In fact, so far as I can recall, I've never seen a guru on there confirm that any particular version doesn't work with Windows 10. Certainly, I recall an explicit confirmation that Sage Instant v16 (2010) works perfectly well on Windows 10.

I hope this helps.

Regard

John, Joanne,

Sorry, I meant to concur with you both in my earlier reply. Apologies for the omission.
