Excel spreadsheet - CIS subcontractors with VAT invoices

Hi, just wondering if anybody has any ideas on this.

Does anybody use spreadsheets for bookkeeping with payments to vat registered CIS subcontractors on them?

It always leaves my spreadsheet looking a bit messy as if the VAT is out, it's been bothering me for a while so I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas.

So the headings (to do with subcontractors and VAT) on my spreadsheet are:

Total

VAT

Net

Out of Scope

Standard Purchase

Zero Rated Purchases

Materials

CIS Subcontractors

Subcontractors

CIS

1728.00

360.00

1800.00

1800.00

2160.00

totals check

1800.00

1440.00

360.00

vat check

When a vat registered subcontractor is paid my totals (for vat) at the tally at the bottom net x 20% are always out because of the CIS deducted in the net column.

Total - total amount paid from the bank

VAT - the vat

Net - the net after the CIS deduction (so the net total at the bottom of the spreadsheet will equal the CIS subcontractor less the CIS tax)

Here's one

invoice total £2,160 (net 1,800 vat 360) cis deducted 360

It just looks so messy! I'm not quite sure how to deal with it. I'm sure I came up with something and sorted this out once but I can't find where I did it. I need to add a balance sheet and profit and loss page on to this spreadsheet too (not done that before confuse) so it would be great if I could sort it out. I don't think I can make the b/s balance without sorting this out either.

Thanks in advance for any ideas

Hi Rachel
Without meaning to sound rude, I noticed that the last couple of posts you did recently had responses from both Doug and John but these were not acknowledged in any way after the event. (A appreciate you TIA'd them at the start, but it always useful after the responses - so that they dont ignore future posts, which is happening increasingly on here, Im afraid). Just thought I should give you the heads up!

Also might be worth attaching your actual spreadsheet.

Hi Joanne

I thought that was something I always did, replying! so I went back and checked on my last few posts....I haven't!

Not rude at all, I think I have been by not replying no I go back and check within the day of the post and if there's nothing there I get waylaid I think and forget to check back again and then when I do remember to go back I think it's too late and at which point if I comment again I make an old post go right back to the top again.

Sorry for not responding to your response to my previous post and thanks for responding to it

Hi Rachel

I don't understand the first column, where does the £1728 come from?   First column should read £1800 + VAT Total £2160, which agrees with your totals check.

As Joanne said, could you post a spreadsheet up with just that one transaction in, so we can see the formula, thanks.

Hi Rachel

Must admit - did think it wasnt like you!

To avoid missing responses you can subscribe to the post so you will get an email from BKN. (Or just read on all posts dailywink)  But also - dont worry about old posts popping back up to the top of the list - we get LOADS of those.  Some of the worst are spammers digging up ancient ones but we also get to have a laugh at some of the things we had forgotten about where a post has descended into daft banter!

Hope you are keeping well - we dont see much of you these days.
