Newbie saying hello!

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. My name is Simon and I've just found the forum on Twitter. Looks like a really friendly and useful place to hangout.

No professional qualifications here, just 20 years of bookkeeping experience working for a number of small and medium sized businesses.

I set up my own small bookkeeping business last year offering bookkeeping, VAT and payroll services. I'm up to 5 clients at the mo which is keeping me busy and paying the bills, but more are always welcome.

Look forward to talking to you all soon.

Regards,

Simon

Hi Simon
Welcome to the madhouse!!!!

Yes we are all really friendly - unless its to business owners wandering in expecting freebies or......if you are stepping on my patch. lol. But seriously - whereabouts are you based?

Hope you enjoy the site and looking forward to any insights you have as the weeks progress.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Thanks for the welcome Cheshire! I live just outside of Tiverton in the heart of Devon. Not exactly the busiest area of the UK in which to set up a bookkeeping business but it's been steady so far.

Just reading through the forum and it looks like you all have a lot of fun here!! Look forward to joining in myself.

Hopefully speak again.

Hi Simon,

welcome to the forum.

Hope that you have fun here.

What software have you adopted for your practice Simon?

All the best,

Shaun.

Thanks Johnny and Shaun!

I've been brought up on a mix of Sage and Excel. Currently have all my bookkeeping clients on Sage, and use MoneySoft for payroll. I'm meeting a potential client next week who use's Xero for both the accounts and payroll, so currently swatting up via Xero TV. Looks like an interesting bit of software, although a bit of a step into the unknown for me!

Hi Simon,

A welcome from Belfast too. I have very fond memories of long camping summer holidays in Devon in the '70s. Positively tropical by comparison. Not so fond memories of the long drive from Belfast via Stranraer to get there mind!

You'll find proponents of all types of software ("cloudy" and "non-cloudy") here. Yet we all seem to get along!

Warm regards,

Welcome indeed Simon, and all best wishes in expanding your business (I can comfortably say that as I'm up in Yorkshire so no threat to me lol)
