Best all inclusive Accounting software


Hiya,

 

Can anyone one advise me on the best Accounting software to start off with?

 

I am about to start up Practice but need to keep my costs low in the interim.

I am looking for a software that does..

  • Accounts
  • Payroll
  • CIS etc
  • Allows unlimited Clients
  • and maybe 3 users but thats not as important.

Also has anyone used bookcert as their form of work experience before going into practice?

 

I look forward and appreciate any guidance coming my way.

Moneysoft for payroll and CIS. VT for accounts perhaps (I dont use it myself, am a sage user, but VT gets the thumbs up from a fair few on here and its cheaper than sage by far!). Have a search for same topic on other threads - theres loads on BKN

If you want a cheap option the way to go is

accounts - VT accounts

payroll - moneysoft

tax - taxfiler

As you get bigger you may want an integrated accounts and tax package which lead you on to option such as; taxcalc, SAGE, digita and IRIS.  At that point really depends on what your budget is and how much you want to integrate ie do you  just want an integrated accounts and tax package or do you want to integrate that together with automatic mail, time and fees, practice management etc.

I started out using VT for accounts and taxcalc for tax returns as it was cheap.

Moved onto taxcalc for accounts and tax as was fully integrated.  More expensive than above but saved time.

Now use IRIS as it is integrated for accounts and tax but also integrated practice management, automail and time and fees (though still to get the automail and time and fees set up).  Will hopefully get the time and fees set up soon but probably leave the automail until February when things quieten down so can get it set up properly as just too busy at the moment to look at plus have my 2nd employee starting a week on Monday.  About 5 times more expensive than taxcalc but will save a lot of time once we are using it properly.   Already the practice management module is saving a lot of time keeping a track on jobs compared to how we used to do it with spreadsheets.

Morning Mark,

just to add, I don't think that cost necessarily equals quality (I'm talking about the reference to VT).

I started out using Sage and moved to VT Transaction+ and VT Accounts. I don't stick with VT because its cheaper but simply for myself at least I really like the total control that the software gives you.

I've noticed quite a few accountants continue to use Sage for the bookkeeping and VT Accounts for stats. Must say that I've encountered some very innovative ways of using VT Accounts that generally pushing everything through from VT Transaction+ myself I would not personally have considered.

It sounds very much as though you have gone the traditional accountancy route now of combining Sage and Iris. Funny that no matter how much people try other options, practices always seem to find their way back to that combination eventually.

You say software to start with but moving from one package to another generally loses history (with most transfers you move over the trial balance, not the elements that make up the trial balance) so be careful with your first choice of package as it tends to be a long term relationship rather than a short fling.

I don't think that anyone on here has ever mentioned that software... Tut, are you hanging around with other forums! We just don't feel special anymore. lol.

The software is the product of NGSoftware Pty Ltd in Sydney, Australia. Small company with 6 employee's established in 1981. They seem to be making their money from the Cloud and Server versions of the software.

The question to ask is whether the desktop software is multi company as I can find no mention of that.

Xero is the accountant package that most of clients use.

Have one client that uses SAGE and do bookkeeping for about half a dozen on SAGE as more suited to SAGE than Xero. 

Though if the new SAGE version runs bank feeds properly might put a few more clients on it.

I've never heard of 'manager' neither, thought there might have been a word missing in front of it, lol. I had a quick look too....couldn't see that it was multi co. Would be a bit worried about support with only six people on the other side of the world and there were no reviews on the site that I saw to show support was great, but then there weren't any to show support was naff neither. I didn't dig for other reviews, was only a 3 second look.

I thought ICBers got a fantastic deal from Sage? Although I still would've thought that it would be price prohibitive for a new business. Try QuickBooks (not online version)

As we know, Quickbooks desktop is notoriously difficult to find, so here are the links

2nd link is pro plus payroll and you can have at least 99 clients I think

Click on where to buy or buy online and you'll get the option of Amazon or Currys to buy from.

 

Personally if you are going to use Quickbooks I would go for the first link and use Moneysoft Payroll, as it's a doddle to use and has built in CIS. It'll work out roughly the same pricewise.
