I think my next task will be to register as an Agent with HMRC.

Is this the address I write to :
HM Revenue & Customs
Central Agent Authorisation Team
Longbenton
Newcastle upon Tyne
NE98 1ZZ

Hi Peasie

For SA (and CT) it is.

Good luck

Yes, I sent mine here and got quite a quick response.

Remember to put your phone number, I did and they rang me up to ask a few questions so this may have speeded things up a bit.

Good luck,

Carole

Hi Quentin,

Now you are asking, it was a while ago....

It was nothing difficult, I think they were just confirming things like my business name, my user ID for online services etc

I registered as an agent online for PAYE and VAT - it was very simple and they sent me codes through the post.

Yes you can do it online for VAT agent, etc but not for SA agent, I believe.
You still will have to register online once you got your SA agent code if you want to file over the net.

I think I may be worse off now than when I started. I now have a user ID and Gateway Agent Identifier but I didn't get to the end of the process to get my PIN because they wanted some reference number - that's what I'm trying to get, HMRC, you bunch of ********. I must be really thick just now. The whole point of me trying to register as an agent is to get these numbers to use these services. But to register as an agent you need these numbers first.

EDIT : I realise I won't be given my PIN online - but I was never going to get to that step without the number for Corporation Tax. Maybe I should have left that one out of my options as I won't be dealing with that for some time anyway. I thought I might just include it now to save some hassle later. Great. I hate HMRC.

For SA, it is a 2 stage process.

First you need to write to CAAT at the address you have above. They will set you up as an agent for SA and send you your Agent Code (in the post).

Once you are an SA agent, you can register to use the online services. You will get a PIN as part of this process.

You can't do the 2nd part without the Agent Code.
