Hi All

I qulified as a bookkeeper in 2007 but i have not done a lot with it as of yet as i work full time and a cover one section in the job i do. But my partner is starting a new business and I said i would help with his books do i need to redgister that I'm Helping him?confuse

All advice would be appreciated.

If you mean register as self-employed - yes if you're going to be paid.  I suppose you should also register with HMRC under MLR which will cost you £120 unless you belong to a professional body.

If you didn't want to be self-employed or fill out a self-assessment (and you may have trouble with HMRC if you only have one customer) you could be paid PAYE by your partner and pay BR tax on all earnings from this second "job". This would also save you the MLR fee as you would be employed rather than self-employed.
