AAT - college to choose. Any recommendation...?

Hi there ;)

I am new to bookkeeping. Actually, I have decided to gain new skills and change my career... smile I have done Basic BKK course and currently I am in the middle of Purchase Ledger one. Both with Pitman Training. I did choose that company to learn with as I thought
- my English (as I am not native...) is not good enough to go to college for proper one-year course
- I was confused which qualification to choose...

Pitman`s courses are good because of flexibility. But it is not suitable for me. I prefer to learn among people, to discuss about topic with them, etc... And self-discipline is not my strong point  hmm So distant learning is not for me either unfortunately...

So I have decided to go for AAT qualification on evening classes based course at some college. I just consider which college to choose - in London.
Has anyone could give me some constructive suggestion? As I live in Muswell Hill I thought about Barnet College - but it is quite far and I am going to move soon, to the west london probably.
Has anyone had some experience with:
- London School of Accountancy and Management, for instance.
- or maybe Kingston College
- or Westminster Adult Education Service...
or others maybe... blankstare

There is one more issue I confused a bit - NVQ and Diploma pathway...? Which one is better to choose from employer point of view? I know that NVQ one is for those that already working in that field and Diploma for those that do not...
Actually I am waitress/Supervisor and I am not working in bookkeeping. Though as a supervisor I do some office work ;)
But in near future I hope to get some part-time job in that field - purchase ledger maybe... Although as I look at adverts everybody wants experience in that hmm
So which one to choose...

Sorry for the long post.
Many thanks for any help...

Kasia

Hello Kasia

I choose the NVQ route because my employer is a qualified accountant and he believed it was better tailored to the working environment. Everyone else here studying the AAT is also doing this so I guess it's probably the way to go.

I dont live in London but I do sympathise with you, and I found that going to college was better suited to my style of learning.

Hope all goes well smile

Gomez
