Offering a payroll service

Hi all

Over the past few years I've built up a small bookkeeping practice. One service I've not offered to date is payroll. I've had a few clients request this service so I decided to take the plunge. I took an evening course at college with the AAT in payroll which taught me how to do payroll manually. However I want to use a payroll software programme and wondered if anyone can recommend a package which is easy to use and hopefully not too expensive.smile

Have look at this website... http://www.12pay.co.uk/

This software is free, it comes with a sample company to play with and there is a training movie on the website to run you through it..worth a look I think!

Thanks for the link Robbie. Looks very interesting especially the price!smile With only a couple of clients showing interest in a payroll service I didn't want to break the bank buying Sage or Iris (although I hear they're quite good).

Hi Janet

Another software package that may be worth a look is at www.moneysoft.co.uk. This payroll package was suggested by an ICB trainer as being reasonably priced and easy to use.

I've been using Moneysoft for the last 12 months having switched from a better known package, and can honestly say that it's an incredibly easy program to use. I've found the support from them to be first class and very efficient, a refreshing change from some of the larger software providers.

For up to 20 clients it only costs £58.69, which is hard to beat - although looking at the website robbie mentioned it might have some stiff competition!

Hi Janet,

I do payroll at work only for a few and use Quickbooks, its really easy and the support line was great, although I'm not qualified yet it was easy to understand.

Out of interest how did you get on with Payroll AAT, I'm just about to enrol in a distance learning programme as want to get qualifield as had a few people ask me.

Hi Amanda

I took the AAT Payroll qualification over one year doing one day a week at college. It was challeging especially remembering the rules for SSP, SMP etc, but it was really interesting and relevant to what I wanted to do which helped.

It is hard work but like anything its worth it.
