starting up

Hi,

I'm AAT qualified and have got two ACCA exams in june and will do 4 ATT (taxation) exams in november. (I've been studying for 4 years now)
I would like to start up my own business in november.
because I do not have any experience, I would like to start with bookkeeping. But I like taxes and preparing financial statement.
I would like to offer these services later to my clients (small companies, soletraders...)

I will register as member with AAT and ATT, but because I do not have any experience, I'm not able to register as fullmember or member in practice.

Does anybody know if I can still offer all these services without being fullmember or without practicing certificate?

I will register with all these associations to be able to ask for technical advice.

Do you know if I'm allowed to file tax returns for others?

Thanks

hHi there,
I've just become a newbi to this forum and trying to set up like yourself. I have spoken to HMRC regarding filing Tax returns as a client and you are allowed to do this as long as you get authorisation from the client and you know what you are doing.

regards
Hani

Thank you very much for the info!.

I've contacted ICB and they are willing to give me a fullmembership and then I can apply for a practicing certificate.
Normally you only receive excemption from ICB exams if you have qualified within two year. They didn't mind that I was qualified longer than two years.

I've contacted AAT and ICB and they both confirmed that I can become full member and apply for a practicing certificate.

I hope that anybody can advice me which is the best.

I will not be very confident in doing accounting jobs at the beginning, so I will start with bookkeeping.

I hope anybody can advice.

Thanks

Hi Sarad

In my experience both the AAT and ICB are very highly regarded bodies. Together with the IAB the ICB is one of the premier book-keeping institutes and I hear that they offer members in practice a lot of support.

I have a friend who is AAT qualified and they seem to offer a very good membership service too. Why not get a practicing certificate from both (just a thought!)?

Fay

I would love to, but it is expensive. ICB is less expensive than AAT.
Thanks yor your info
Sara
