Question on Salary Expectations of a Bookkeeper??

As a newly qualified bookkeeper(Say ICB Level 2 - man bookkeeping) what would be a realistic starting salary? I live in Aberdeen and am not sure what to expect in terms of salary since my only prior experience with accounts and bookkeeping is based on voluntary work for charitable organisations.

I do intend to start up my own bookkeeping business and would appreciate if anyone could enlighten me on what self-emplyed bookkeepers charge for their services.

Also, where would be a good place to start looking for bookkeeping work. Most online recruiment sites focus on Accounting jobs.

Thanks
Brendasmile

I qualified via the IAB and currently work as a book-keeper for a firm of Chartered management accountants. I started on £14K with no practical experience and currently earn £18K. I've just started the ACCA and I believe the average salary of a qualified accoutant is around £28-£30K.

My firm uses subcontract book-keepers for some basic accounts work and I believe they charge in the region of £15 per hour (Glasgow rates).

I found my position on Monster.co.uk. I know they often list book-keeping vacancies so may be worth looking there.
