Starting Out

Hi,

My name is Claire Dance and i have not long starting my own bookkeeping business working from home. I have already advertised in my local yellow pages and have had only 3 enquiries. Although i've been told that December is a slow month as everyone is thinking of christmas.

I'm slightly worried because all my advertising came out around August and i only have one client which, came from my wedding photographer. I've looked at networking websites but most are in the morning and quite far away, unfortunatley i am unable to go because i have triplet boys aged two and half and with my husband at work there is nobody to look after them.

Does anyone have any advise on getting clients and/or any networking in or around the braintree area in the afternoon/evening time.

Claire.

Hi Claire

If you haven't tried networking with your close family and friends first you may want to do so as I've always found this effective. You may also want to try direct mail shots to local businesses offering your services. A cheaper alternative is a leaflet drop.

In the past I have networked with local firms of accountants and again this has proved worthwhile.

Best wishes.

Fay

Thank you Fay. I'll try some direct mail shots and leafleting too after christmas.

Many thanks for your response.

Claire.
