Removing sage 50 and replacing it with sage instant

Hi me again just wondering how to remove all aspects of sage 50 in order to install sage instants.  First try and I still get it coming up as sage 50.  Are there files that need to be removed that are not in the remove programme application?

thanks all

IIRC, with Sage the actual software on the disc isn't one thing or the other - it uses the serial number and activation code you're given to determine what level of software it needs to be. So I'm guessing you're using your existing Sage 50 code to activate a newly installed Sage Instant? If so, you need to register it as Instant with Sage, so that you get a valid Sage Instant code.

You need to delete the file sage.usr which is located in the version sub directory of the settings directory.

This will then prompt you to enter the new keycode which be for and make it behave as Instant accounts.

A full clean reinstall could be followed if that doesn't do the job (but you don't need to do the .net uninstall and reinstall.)

Thanks for that. I have tried again but it will not allow me to enter my serial number and key number so will try the full clean. Thanks for all you help. Really appreciate it.

If you had earlier versions installed the file could be in other places, including the installation directory.

If you delete all the sage.usr files it should prompt you to enter new details and will be much quicker.

A good way to find out if you have any specific files on your computer is to use agent ransack.  It's freeware and doesn't contain any malware.  If you install it and type in sage.usr it will find any instances no matter where they are.  You can then right click and delete it from there.

It's far better than the native windows one and I've used it for years.

I wish I'd known about that program a couple of weeks ago.

Call from a client to say the invoicing program I wrote for them many years ago had stopped working, giving the error "Path not found". I've had this with them before - it usually means that someone's accidentally moved the data files. The fix is to find the files and move them back. Usually, the folder containing them has been scooped up and moved when some other files have been moved.

Except this time I could not find them. At all. I checked the recycle bins in case they'd been deleted - no (and there were older deletions in them, so they hadn't been cleared out). Those files had completely vanished. (And, of course, their backup regime is somewhat 'wanting' - wanting to be done, mainly.)

In the end, I had to reset the program and start them off from scratch - if they need access to older invoices, they'll have to refer to the printed copies.

Those files *must* be there somewhere, but the Windows search tool wasn't helpful - that program might have done the trick. Oh well.
