C79s and importing

Hi

In the past my client has sent me C79 which Ive been able to match to freight company invoice.  He has also sent me copies of the C88 importation doc which has enabled me to see the rate used to convert the import from US dollars to sterling (and on which then the VAT was based) - this has been useful as it has meant I can match it up to the import invoice from his Chinese suppliers.

Now I havent got the C88s - should I be getting this?  I have Chinese invoices but want to make sure Ive not missed anything as this one is notoriously bad at giving me all the paperwork. Even when I ask!!  Do you routinely get it?   If not do you just use the HMRC rate on the date declared from C79 for the conversion rate for the suppliers invoice?

He usually ships in his goods but has also air freighted two batches - is there anything extra I need to be looking out for (just want an early heads up so I can start my nagging for paperwork off!) doh

Joanne, just on the VAT front - the C79 is your Purchase Invoice for input tax purposes. Do check against the other documentation, so that the actual accounting entries are correct. I have known C79s to be incorrect.

Hi Les
I always like to double check with these things which is why part of me (control freak) wants the C88s as well as the other bits. Ive had instances of no C79 because VAT numbers were quoted incorrectly/someones else's stuff on it etc so I will 'hunt them down'. I wont let him reclaim the VAT until I have the C79 - learnt very quickly the 'I will get it next time' = 'I will not bother'.

Hope youre ok and almost ready for the Christmas onslaught or peace depending on what youre up to!
