IFA linkedin Group ????

Don't know if anyone else has had issues or whether I've been banned for asking the wrong questions or removed because I've resigned my membership but if anyone else is with the IFA and is a member of their group on Linkedin can you just take a look to see if the group is actually still there?

Yesterday it was a lively group with active membership that was asking perhaps the wrong questions which the body did not want asked in relation to the takeover (merger, yer right!) by the Australian IPA and what members were not being told.

The vote happened yesterday which relinquished control to the IPA.

Today I for one can no longer access the group in order to talk about what happened.

If thats the case and anyone knows any IFA members (its pretty much a home from home for IAB people who take the next step so suspect that we have quite a few IFA readers from that route) then please tell them that they are more than welcome to start posting here where professional bodies representitives do not get free reign, that plugs will not be pulled on this site for championing the members over the body that they belong to and that people are allowed to ask the right questions (respectfully and professionally) without fear or favour.

I've now had confirmation. The IFA linkedin group is closed and all site content has been deleted.

The action was taken neither on the orders of the IFA or the Australian IPA (although the removal of the discenting voices will come as a nice wedding present for them).

That leaves a lot of IFA people out there without a voice so please feel free to post here.

And for the IFA members here you might want to hold onto these links as you never know when you might want to use them :

Odd given it is still linked from the institute website.

See if it is reinstated

Hi Hal,

tried it but whilst the IFA site still has it on their front page its just a dead link (exhibit A).

As I say, I spoke with the sites owner directly (not the IFA) and it really has been taken down and all content is gone.

Yes I tried it yesterday.

Just curious now as to who /why it was taken down and whether it will be reinstated.

Well, funny you should ask that Hal.

Apparently the Linkedin site was a member site, not something supported by the IFA but because it was a success the IFA put a link to it on their site as if it was the official site.

The moment the result was released the site owner left the IFA (as with several others he's now with the AIA) and left his own Linkedin Group which effectively closed the group.

Considering the above the group will not be reinstated although the IFA/IPA could create a new one but it would mean them investing the time to look after the group.

Just got a really nice letter from the IFA acknowledging my resignation from the body so I'm officially no longer a member (so don't look at me for setting a group up).

Unlike others I'm not now going AIA or ICPA. Just need to concentrate on trying to get an ACCA practice certificate as I figure that to pursue any other route is an admitance of failure to be able to achieve the one that I want so my heart and soul would never be with any other professional body... Three years with the IFA has at least given me that epiphany so I know the direction I need to go.

Just need a local(ish) chartered certified practice with a practice certificate supervision license to take pity on me.... Not sure that January is going to be the best time for sending out begging letters for that though!

So, anyway, thats it. The Linkedin Group is in a way a casualty of the takeover and it will not be back in its old form.

kind regards,

Shaun.

That is what I thought would be the case for the group - clue was in David's comment re site admin having to approve David Woodgate's post!

Hope you get the practising certificate you want.

You could offer to help with their January madness for free, well in return for supervision?   no !!!

Yes, you were absolutely right Shamus. I was owner of the group with Frauke as a manager if memory serves.

Once the IFA announced the result of the vote (which incidentally was 98% in favour - only other place you get that sort of result is in a communist regime) I left the group thereby deleting it from LinkedIn. As the group had been setup, run and managed by members with absolutely NO involvement from the IFA, we felt it was our group to do with as we pleased.

Apologies to anyone who experienced any inconvenience as a result.

For the record, I immediately resigned from the IFA and am now with the AIA - at least now I can do charity accounts without anyone saying "but your institute is not on the list" :)
