I have used sage for many years when I was employed but found it sluggish and unreliable on our network. When I was speaking to our tech guys when I was starting up they expressed to me to stay away from sage. I am using Iris Kashflow at present and have found it not as user friendly as sage but the customer service is great.
Anyone have any recommendations when it comes to accounting software??
Easy to use, desktop solution, unlimited number of clients with no additional charges, easy to make changes, no nominal codes, no locking years in order to move forwards, a favorite on both here and accountingweb.
Its great for service industries and general accounting but not so good if you need stock control so if you have box stackers and shifters Sage may be a better option for those one's but keep any business that you can on VT to keep the Sage client tax down.
For Payroll give both Moneysoft and 12pay trials and decide which one you like the best.
HTH,
Shaun.

Hi Claire, I will recommend you to use the QuickBooks which is quite user friendly and easy to use. With QuickBooks you have both the option - either to go for desktop solution or online version of QuickBooks. Hope you will really like it.
I use Sage and Quick Books, don't find either sluggish or overly problematic, although may be moving away from sage due to their impending online only charges ( instead of perpetual licences), unless they reverse their recent decisions (unlikely given they are so entrenched in the industry, although you never know, maybe it's possible when more people realise what's going on!)

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
