Sage bank details screen gone!

When I click on Bank on our sage system, no icons or list of bank accounts are shown.  A tab shows at the bottom of the screen but does not show completely.  Has anyone come across this and if so any solutions found please?

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

Apparently there is an issue with Avast AV software that causes this for some users

Oh dear.

I can't be overly critical of Sage over this - the blame really lies with the lowlife bottom feeders that write malware.

However, a part of the solution suggested by Sage annoys the hell out of me.

"To prevent the issue occurring in future, you must add the Sage Accounts or Payroll program directory and the Sage SBD directory to the list of excluded scan locations in Avast."

What that means is that if one of your Sage files DOES ever become infected, Avast will never see it.

Similarly, further up, it says "Since this article was first published, Avast! have updated their definitions to exclude Sage files." - so again, if one of your Sage files is ever infected, Avast will never pick it up because it's now excluding Sage files.

The CORRECT solution is for Sage and Avast to put their heads together and work out WHY Avast is generating false positives on Sage files - presumably a section of compiled code happens to match the signature Avast uses of a piece of malware - and address that problem (re-jig the source code slightly so that it compiles to an object file that no longer matches the signature [Sage], or update the signatures to be less likely to generate false positives [Avast]. The solutions above are simply brushing the problem under the carpet.

I've not had that, but today the tabs at the bottom that show what you have opened kept disappearing. It didn't affect what I was doing as such but was a little bit annoying. It was on my clients computer though so I've no idea what they have that would cause it.

There is another option.

You can exclude the sage DATA files (*.DTA) from scanning, these, as they are not executable, can not be infected with a virus.

This way you get security of AV protection and do not risk av interference with the data files.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but I recently found that, while working on a client's 2008 version installed on Windows 8, the customer list, supplier list and bank list regularly disappeared, and I had to close and re-open the program. I also couldn't reconcile the bank as normal. Even though it did reconcile, I had to open and "use saved" then close and re-open discarding saved.

Very bizarre. Thought it must be old version not working with new widows. Have moved them up to new Sage now, thank goodness!
