FedUp.com

Hello,

Feeling a bit fed up so thought I'd come on the forum and share my fedupness with you.

I've not been progressing at work and as I want to learn new stuff and also earn some extra cash I set up my own business doing basic bookkeeping and a small amount of very simple self-assessments for people.  It's going very slow and is a struggle as I work full time.  It's difficult to find more clients.

An opportunity came up in work today where I could have learnt how to submit dormant accounts but it was given to a new group accountant who joined the company 6 months ago.

Whilst it's not anything major it would have given me a morale boost and it would have helped me to learn to do this for clients of my own.

This is partly the reason that i started working from home as I learn nothing that means anything at my current job.

I have tried looking for other jobs but would have to take a significant pay cut to get anything that I could probably learn from.

I've won myself a new client in the last 3 months who has 2 limited companies although 1 is barely trading.  I do the books monthly and am just about to submit my first VAT return for them.  I hope they grow and i get involved in more work with them.  They are very small at the moment but have the potential to grow considerably.

All I look forward to now is coming home from work and doing work for my few clients that I have.  So far I haven't had any grief from any of my client, infact things run very smoothly.  I get paid on time and don't have to answer to anyone only myself.  No grumpy bosses.

Roll on o when I have enough clients to just work for myself or go part time.

Rant over!  I'm off to do some checks on my cilents books ready for the VAT return in the next couple of days.

Elaine

Hi Ben,

It really knocks my confidence at times. I should have never taken the job in the first place. Got pushed out of a previous job by a bully and have been bullied at this job also.

Not a nice place to be!

You obviously have something they feel intimidated by! Keep going and soon enough you'll find you're the boss of your own full time business!

Well I wish I knew what it was! All I want to do is go to work, enjoy my work, progress and come home feeling happy and satisfied that I have done my best and been rewarded for it.

If anything since I have started my own business they have taken more of an interest in that. I have had a meeting recently with one of the bosses and was asked if I was still doing work from home for myself. I said yes I am but it will never interfere with what I am doing here and I will not let that happen.

They are not really that happy about it if I am honest.

I get more pleasure and self satisfaction doing bookkeeping and VAT returns for my clients than I do at work.

I have a friend who qualified as a CIMA accountant and started doing work from home. She saved all the money she earned from her own clients.

Her employer knew she was running her own business from home and made it clear they were not happy.

She resigned and went full time for herself as she had saved enough money to be able to support herself whilst she built up her business.

She now is very successful and has even started to buy properties to rent also.

Damn it I wish that was me!

Hi Elaine,

You have my sympathy. I have been in a similar situation in the past.

Best of luck,

David.
