VAT on AA Membership


Dos anyone know if there is VAT on AA membership as I have a client wanting to claim it back!

 

I have the renewal letter and it doesn't mention it, any help welcome

Breakdown cover is a form of insurance and insurance is exempt from VAT - see section 3.6 of VAT Notice 701/36.

I also found a link to a newspaper where an AA spokesman is quoted as saying that AA membership doesn't include VAT.

Can the client claim for AA Membership at all?  Is it not a personal item? Unless of course it is AA Membership for a company vehicle used exclusively for business purposes and it is the vehicle that is covered and not the person?
