Lacking Motivation!

Hello there,

I have enrolled into an ICB course with Kaplan in August 2011. Unfortunately due to personal problems I just couldn't get started then. Now, all these months later, when things have settled down again in the personal front, I feel I lack motivation in getting started with the course. I have spent a fortune on the course and am a single mum who can do with the cash once I get qualified etc, etc.... but I feel like I have hit a wall with the course. Anyone out there who may have remotely been in a similar situation ( either at the start or during the course ) please help / advice.

Any support will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hope.

I wish I could give you advice but I am in a similar situation. I signed up for AAT Level 2 nearly a year ago. I did the first few assignments as soon as I got them as they were very easy due to the fact I've been doing the job for over 15years. But then when it came to taking the first exam I had a major crisis of confidence, then school holidays got in the way so I was with my kids 24/7, and I haven't found the motivation since. Also not helped by my tutor not even checking in either which I thought they might have done, and I feel a bit forgotten. Now, paid work has got in the way of any study time and I definitely need a real kick up the backside, especially as my mum lent me the money for the course and I assured her I would pay her once I was qualified.

Sorry, that probably hasn't helped at all, but just wanted to let you know you aren't alone at all.

Hi Hope, I answered your other post.

If you post in the wrong section don't worry too much as all of the regulars on here use the recent posts button rather than going into specific area's so your message will be picked up o matter where you put it.

Hi Hope

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling to motivate yourself, having children to care for, and home to run can sometimes mean there are not enough hours in the day and even when you do get a break you are just too shattered and just want to relax, I know I have been there myself and it is both mentally and physically exhausting. In hindsight it may have been better just studying level one to see if it was suited but I also understand multi course purchase have savings to be made. I understand that it is easier said than done but my advice is to start slowly, just a few hours a week, try and commit to 7 hours each week. You will find most training providers will be understanding. Why not contact your tutor and explain your situation. The addage life gets in the way is never more true when you have a young family, try to remember why you spent your money in the first place. I am sure it was to improve your prospects and provide a better life for your family. I am certain you will find the motivation from somewhere. When I retrained I just kept looking at my children thinking I dont want them to go through the same problems I have had, and that is where I found my motivation. I wish you well Hope.

Hi
Like you i have a young family, i help my husband with he's business--life can be hectic
It was hard finding motivation especially after half terms and summer holidays
The trick is to get started then you will be on a roll and you will find time to fit the study in.. Also this forum helps boost your moral and confidence biggrin

Tasty. I'll have a glass of red with that.

Having spent the best part of a week's leisure time reading through past BKN forum posts, I was dreaming about you all, enough was enough, and I have saved the rest for later.

It's crazy enough that I only joined a week and a bit ago and I've been promoted twice already.

Waheeeee!
