Please help - I need to delete company data

I was trying to see how I did something on the a previous sage company accounts to see if it was the right way to do it for my current client.

I dug out a back up of the previous client's back-up file I had sent someone some time ago from my email sent items and restored it, it required user name and password and I can't remember what they were so I thought hey ho and thought about moving back and restoring to my current company data - but Sage won't let me in now as I have to go through the previous client's company data in order to overwirte it with my current company data and without the password and user name, I am blocked.

Sage aren't open in order to help and I have a lot of work to do on this now that can't wait till monday...

Has anyone got any ideas on how to remove the company data that is in sage without going through it to restore a data file from somewhere else.
I have deleted the actual data file but the information is absorbed by Sage it seems so my deletion of the back-up file hasn't detached it from Sage.  help!! I have tried going into the trial and demo but the restore function is greyed out and not accessible in those modes either... arghghghghgh - I feel so stupid now!!

Yes, the simplest thing is to wait until they open on monday and say that I have lost my password and user name and they can decode it at a cost...

I was trying to delete the whole data file from sage without having to do open it first because I can't wait - I may have to but my ideal is to find the solution to restoring data and deleting data without having to go through it to do it.

Like going through programme files and finding out where the data sits in the sage files - I have deleted the  data file but Sage has absorbed it so I need to know how to delete it to start 'fresh' IF this is possible and then I will 'restore' a blank sage with my current company data.

Try user name 'manager', password as 'sage'

got all excited there thinking this would be it but sadly no.  I'm really appreciative for your help but I think I may be on the phone to sage on monday morning asking them for their decoding...

thank you all!

How about trying user name "manager" and leave the password field blank?
Pauline

Sorry about all the edits....suggested something else, but then discovered that wouldn't work!

Hi there,

Give the following a try...hopefully it will get you back into the programme and you will be able to restore your backup.

Depending on what version of Sage you are running and what version of Windows, you need to find your Accdata folder, rename it and then copy and paste your Demodata Accdata folder into the original location of the Accdata folder.

I am running V15 and Windows Vista and my Accdata folder is in C:\Programdata\Sage\Accounts\xxxversion\Company.000\Accdata.

1.  Rename this folder Accdataold.

2.  Find the Demodata Accdata folder which will be in C:\Programdata\Sage\Accounts\xxxversion\Demodata\company.000\Accdata

3.  Copy and paste this file into your C:\Programdata\Sage\Accounts\xxxversion\Company.000 folder.

Hopefully you will now be able to open Sage with its Demo data and be able to restore your previous backup.

This is quite complicated if you are unsure of what you are doing.  If you are having problems let me know

That looks like a good solution Pauline.

It might also be possible to rename the data as Accdataold, as you said, than just try opening Sage. It might just run the set up wizard, as it cant find a current Accdata folder.

Just a thought

Bill

Yep, good thought Bill...lol

Trust me to go for the complicated solution when a simple one will do

Hi Bill, Kate,

I don't think just renaming the Accdata folder as Accdataold will work. I tried this with my version and when I started up the programme it came up with a warning which said it couldn't find the Accdata file, so you may have to try the complicated way after all! Good luck Kate....let us know how you get on.

I have only just started using Sage Instant, hoping to take my ICB Level 2 computerised soon. The way I delete company data is File menu; maintenance; rebuild option. un-tick all boxes except "retain nominal account name only" and "retain chart of accounts". This has worked for me, as I keep practicing with different data. As I say I am a novice user and this may not be relevant to your situation.

Hope you get sorted, Sylvia

Hi Sylvia,

What you described is the way to rebuild your company data by removing all supplier and customer details etc. but don't think it will work in this case as Kate can't even get into the programme

Pauline, YOU WERE RIGHT with renaming the folder ACCDATAOLD and creating a new folder called ACCDATA.
Then open SAGE and it starts fresh as if I am setting up a new company with the option of collecting data from the memory stick that I have all my data on!
All better now! xx
Thanks so much for all your help guys!

Kate
*relieved*
