Small CiC - how to file accounts with Companies House
 


Hello, 

Can anyone advise please?

A friend runs a small charity (CiC) with an income of under 6k and she's asked me to file her accounts with Companies House as a favour.

I recently started out as a bookkeeper and I normally do day-to-day bookkeeping for clients but I've never done this before, so could someone advise:

- Do I log in online as her company using her webfiling code?

- What info do I need to get from her to complete the accounts? She's sent me the balance sheet in Excel.

My advice to your friend would be to pay someone to do it..

The accounts themselves need to be prepared in the same way as statutory accounts for a limited company. CICs cannot file online accounts.

As well as the statutory accounts, a CIC34 Community Interest Company Report must also be submitted to Companies House.

If you have no experience of preparing statutory accounts I would suggest that you refer her to someone who does, to be honest.

Presumably this is now sorted?

CICs need to file 3 lots of accounts, some must be online, some must be on paper. Pay an accountant so they hold the liability (ok, that's not the right legal term, but hope you get my point).

I know the process, however I am paying my accountant to do it (as director of a CIC myself).
