RE: Congestion Charge

Hi Julie

Correct T9 is the Sage tax code for items that fall outside the scope of VAT

Hi there, just a quick query on this if using sage I presume you would use a T9 for this transaction and not T0 or T2.  Thanks

Definately "Outside the scope"

Extract from HMRC website

Other goods and services outside the scope of VAT include:

  • donations to charity freely given by a business where the giver does not receive anything in return
  • statutory fees and services, eg MOT testing, congestion charge
  • tolls for bridges, tunnels and roads operated by public authorities
  • low cost welfare services provided by charities

Hi.

I put the Congestion Charge under Misc Motor Expenses ( N/C 7304 in Sage) and as far as I am aware it is outside the scope of VAT.
Hope this helps :)

How would I deal with this in the accounts? Would this come under motor expenses?

Also would there be any VAT on this? :/ It is £20.00 altogether.

Thanks in advance!
