For me I back up onto a USB stick, as I can then access the data anywhere I go. I also back up this stick to my main hard drive at home once in a while, just in case.

Backing up data is very important and not enough people do it properly. You also need to think about the security of your data to comply with the Data Protection requirements.

Ahh floppy discs. We used to have boxes and boxes and boxes of them.

To answer the OP, I use a rotation of USB sticks, which are rotated off the premises, just in case the office burns down overnight!

Cheap and cheerful solutions are ADrive and Acronis

Acronis is about £40 a year for upto 250gb and Adrive is free for private (ahem..) use up to 50gb.

Acronis comes highly recommended though.

USB and Dropbox

I use an on line automated back up system called Carbonite. Have had to restore from it, worked well. The best bit is it continually backs up without me having to do anything.

Accounting Shield?  Can it make an automatic backup of any file?  Can it automatically backup multiple excel spreadsheets in one go?  Can it backup VT for you?  Can it backup QuickBooks?  Can it do anything other than work with the overpriced Sage?  If NO, sell decent software that bookkeepers want! 

Oh dear, AcctShield you sound desperate for sales. Your first post looked spammy, this one more so.

The fact is, Sage is no longer industry standard software, so it doesn't matter if it can integrate with Sage. Many here wouldn't touch Sage with a barge pole.

Sage is overpriced rubbish though, why design software to work solely with it then push it down our throat? Isn't one post selling your wares enough?

Still so far so good on the Sage front. Was touch and go the other day when a client was adamant that they wanted it but it seemed only because that was what everyone to date had been telling them that they needed it without actually explaining to them that it wasn't actually their only option.

As it was the case was one of the simplest one man band setups I've come across and absolutely no need for Sage... I think that my selling point was when I gave him cost comparisons to other software.

And yes, I'm doing his books now in VT

Personal view is that whilst I think that the Sage tax on our clients borders on criminal the product itself isn't that bad (although I think that VT is much better).

However only by people turning their backs on it can we hope to make them wake up and smell the coffee about their pricing structure.

Reading all this stuff at the moment about the accountants version of the Sage one cloud offering and my first thought isn't "Ooh, that's reasonably priced" but rather, how long before they crank up the price to the point where peoples eye's start to water. (By the way, wouldn't that automatically back everything up for you anyway without third party software?).

It's a sound marketing approach but to my mind should only work where a business hasn't stitched up it's clients with the same trick in the past.

I think that shooting the busineses that tries to hang off Sages coat tails though is a little cruel in that whoever it is whose posting for account shield just saw a market opportunity and tried to fill it.

Fully appreciate that although they just got it with both barrells they are not really the point of your annoyance. That I'm sure would be Sage themselves.

I don't see Account Shield getting any sales from this site but as it's a legitimate product like other software vendors, cloud pushers and Franchises that advertise on here I think that it's only fair to let them have their say.

Ok, change that "I don't see Account Shield getting any sales from this site" to "Account shield won't get any sales from this site".

Think that they're having as much of a laugh as Sage over their pricing!

All they're doing is backing stuff up. You could afford a couple of 1tb backup drives for the price of backing up 5 companies and why would anyone pay anything at all for support for backup?
